Frequently asked questions

When is the trekking season in Pakistan's Karakoram?

June to mid-September for the high glacier routes. The Baltoro, Gondogoro La and Snow Lake need that window — outside it the passes and high camps are snowbound and the jeep roads to Askole and Hushe are often cut. Lower treks such as Fairy Meadows and Barah Brok run May to October.

How fit do I need to be for a Karakoram trek?

For K2 Base Camp expect six to eight hours of walking a day for two weeks, on moraine and glacier, carrying only a daypack. Three months of regular hill walking with a loaded pack is a realistic minimum. Shorter treks such as Barah Brok (5 days) suit first-timers.

Do I need a permit to trek in Gilgit-Baltistan?

Open-zone treks such as K2 Base Camp and Fairy Meadows need no trekking permit for most nationalities. Restricted-zone routes and any peak above 6,000 m require permits and a liaison officer, which we arrange. Everyone needs a Pakistan visa.

What does a trek price include?

Our quoted prices cover permits and fees, all ground transport, a licensed Balti guide, cook and porters, full camp equipment and all meals on trek. International flights, insurance and personal gear are not included. Each package page lists its own inclusions.

How much does a Karakoram trek cost?

Short treks start around $1,200 for six days. K2 Base Camp runs $1,800 to $2,600 depending on route and length. The 8,000 m expeditions start at $15,900. All prices are per person and listed on every package page.
