The K2 Base Camp Trek Classic is the original and most traditional route to the foot of the world’s second-highest mountain — a 21-day return journey along the legendary Baltoro Glacier that follows the same path taken by the great mountaineers of the past century. You trek in, reach K2 Base Camp and Concordia, and return via the same route — seeing the magnificent landscape from both perspectives, in changing light.
Why Choose the Classic Route?
The classic out-and-back route on the Baltoro Glacier is the best choice for trekkers who want the full K2 Base Camp experience without the technical demands of the Gondogoro La crossing. It is more accessible to first-time high-altitude trekkers, allows more time at the key viewpoints, and has the most well-established camping infrastructure.
The Route
Islamabad to Skardu by flight, then 4×4 to Askole. The trek follows the Braldu River gorge to Jhola, then the rose-filled meadows of Paiju, onto the glacier moraine at Urdukas, across the ice to Goro II and the summit at Concordia (4,500m) — the Throne Room of the Mountain Gods, surrounded by K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and II. A full day’s walk reaches K2 Base Camp (5,150m).
