Walk to the base camps of four of the world’s fourteen 8,000-metre peaks on one trek — K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II — along the great Baltoro Glacier. Twenty-four days from Islamabad to Islamabad, all-inclusive at $3,200 per person on a fixed departure. It is cold, long and remote, and there is no finer walk in the Karakoram. You’ll do it with Balti guides who grew up beneath these mountains, a sat phone in camp and a rescue plan that actually exists. Local hands, real safety, fair price.

What to expect
The highest point is 5,150 m, so altitude counts here. The itinerary is built around acclimatising and your guide sets a pace that gets you there comfortably.
You’re ready ifyou hike regularly, are happy with long days, and have spent some time above 3,000 m.
Give yourself a little longer ifyour longest recent day was under six hours. Give it a few months of hill walking with a pack and you will be ready.

Travel to Skardu (2,230m), gateway to the Baltoro. Rest and settle in.
A day for permits, NOC and final gear checks before the trek begins.
By 4x4 jeep to Askole (3,000m), 7-9 hours up the Braldu valley.
Trek along the Braldu river to Jhola camp (3,200m).
Continue to Paiju (3,450m) beneath the granite spires of the Trango Towers.
An acclimatisation and prep day before stepping onto the Baltoro Glacier.
Climb onto the Baltoro Glacier and camp at Khoburtse (3,800m).
Trek to Urdukas (4,050m), perched above the glacier with sweeping views.
Cross the open ice to Goro II camp (4,380m).
Arrive at Concordia (4,600m), the throne room of the mountain gods.

How hard is the 4 Eight Thousand Base Camp Trek? Do I need climbing skills?
This is a serious high-altitude trek, though not a technical climb — no general mountaineering skills are needed on the route. Expect long days on glacier and moraine, cold camps, and real altitude with no road access once you are in. Come with strong cardio fitness and ideally some prior multi-day trekking.

The high point is K2 Base Camp at about 5,150m.
What permits or visa do I need?
Trekking here needs a Pakistan Trekking & Mountaineering visa, which is different from a standard tourist visa, plus trekking permits and an NOC for the national park. We arrange the permits and guide you through the visa paperwork before you travel.
What about insurance, safety and rescue?
We require mountaineering or adventure travel insurance that includes high-altitude helicopter-evacuation cover, valid to this trek’s maximum altitude. Out here heli-evacuation is the emergency option and its cost falls to the client and their insurer, so sort it before you travel. Every expedition carries a satellite phone, and we maintain helicopter-rescue contacts for the region.

How do I get to the start?
