The highest point is 3,300 m. Most people feel nothing worse than short breath up there, and the pace is set to keep it that way.

Itinerary — Rakaposhi Base Camp Trek

Seven days from Islamabad to the foot of Rakaposhi: acclimatize in Hunza, drive to the Minapin trailhead, then climb from forest to alpine ice and the famous high meadow at Tagaphari.

7 days

Fly to Gilgit (weather permitting) or drive the legendary Karakoram Highway, then on to Karimabad in Hunza. Settle in beneath Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar.

An easy acclimatization day: sunrise at Eagle's Nest, the 700-year-old Baltit and Altit forts, and the turquoise of Attabad Lake. Light walking to ready the legs.

A short drive across to Minapin village in Nagar, the trailhead. Meet your trek crew, check kit, and take an orientation walk through the apricot orchards.

The trek begins. Climb steadily through pine and juniper forest — the steepest, sweatiest stretch, about 3 hours and 800m of ascent to the grassy shelf of Hapakun. Camp as the Hunza-Nagar valleys open up below.

A shorter, kinder 2-3 hour climb to Tagaphari — the broad meadow everyone calls Rakaposhi Base Camp. Rakaposhi (7,788m) rears up ahead, Diran Peak (7,266m) to the right, the Minapin Glacier grinding below. Afternoon on the famous high “cricket ground.”

Watch first light burn across the wall of Rakaposhi, then descend to Minapin and drive back to Hunza for a hot shower and a proper bed. Celebrate the summit view with the crew.

Return — fly from Gilgit or drive the Karakoram Highway back toward Islamabad. The trip ends with the mountain still in your eyes.
