The Barah Brok Trek is one of the Karakoram’s most spectacular and least-visited high-altitude adventures — a 9-day journey into the dramatic Barah Brok Valley in the Shigar District of Gilgit-Baltistan, offering extraordinary glacier views, towering granite walls and a genuine wilderness experience that even experienced Karakoram trekkers rarely encounter.
The Valley
The Barah Brok Valley branches north from the Shigar Valley, climbing through progressively dramatic Karakoram terrain toward the glaciated peaks of the central Karakoram Range. The name “Barah Brok” translates roughly to “great glacier” in Balti — and the valley lives up to that name, with a spectacular glacier system that terminates at a sweeping terminal moraine visible for miles.
Unlike the famous Baltoro Glacier corridor, the Barah Brok Valley sees almost no trekkers each season — the trail is unmarked, the campsites are wild, and the silence is complete. For experienced trekkers seeking genuine off-the-beaten-path Karakoram wilderness, this is one of the most rewarding destinations in Pakistan.
