The K2 Base Camp Trek Extended is a 24 days guided trip in Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan, topping out at 5,150 m. It is graded Demanding — long glacier trek, non-technical — 15–17 days on foot. 4 fixed departures are open from $4,500 per person, all-inclusive from Islamabad.
Why three more days?
The K2 Base Camp Trek Extended walks the same Baltoro as our 21-day Classic — Askole, Paiju, Urdukas, Goro II, Concordia and K2 Base Camp at 5,150 m — but it gives you 24 days to do it in. The three extra days are not sightseeing. They are an acclimatisation day on the Urdukas terraces, a working day out to Broad Peak Base Camp at 4,900 m, and a weather day held in reserve at Concordia.
Who it is for
Choose this one if the Baltoro is your first long trek at altitude, if you would rather arrive at Concordia rested than on schedule, or if you have flown a long way and do not want a single bad-weather morning to cost you the base camp. The walking days are the same length as the Classic. There is simply more room in the plan.
What it does not change
It is still a demanding glacier trek to 5,150 m with 15 to 17 days on foot, still camping from Askole onward, and still no road out once you pass Paiju. More days lower the altitude risk. They do not make the Baltoro easy, and we would rather say so now than at Urdukas.

K2 Base Camp Trek Extended Price
Join one of our K2 Base Camp Trek Extended fixed departures at $4,500 per person all-inclusive. The legendary Baltoro Glacier route — in and out via the same iconic path, with maximum time at Concordia and K2 Base Camp.
Fixed Departures
Fixed departures are scheduled dates you join as part of a group, rather than arranging your own trip. 4 dates are currently open, each capped at 12 people. Every date is the same price, $4,500 per person. A $450 deposit reserves a place. The availability column shows how many places are left on each date.
These are private departures, priced by the size of your party rather than by a set date. Pick the band that matches your group and the price per person is fixed at that rate, across 4 options. The more of you who travel, the less each person pays — from $9,900 for Solo (1 Person) down to $4,500/pp for 7-10 Persons. What each band covers is set out in the table.

What to expect
The highest point is 5,150 m, so altitude counts here. The itinerary is built around acclimatising and your guide sets a pace that gets you there comfortably.
You’re ready ifyou hike regularly, are happy with long days, and have spent some time above 3,000 m.
Give yourself a little longer ifyour longest recent day was under six hours. Give it a few months of hill walking with a pack and you will be ready.
This might not be your trip ifthis would be your first time at altitude. Start with a shorter Karakoram trek and come back to this one — you will enjoy it far more.
One thing we do insist on: travel insurance that covers helicopter evacuation.

Itinerary K2 Base Camp Extended
The K2 Base Camp Trek Extended is the original and most traditional route to the foot of the world’s second-highest mountain — a 24-day return journey along the legendary Baltoro Glacier that follows the same path taken by the great mountaineers of the past century. You trek in, reach K2 Base Camp and Concordia...
24 days
Arrive in Islamabad for a warm welcome and the pre-trek briefing.
Fly to Skardu (2,500m) and take an easy acclimatization walk.
Gear checks and permits in Skardu, with a drive into Shigar Valley.
4x4 jeep to Askole (3,000m) via Shigar Valley - the trailhead for the Baltoro.
First steps on the Baltoro trail, following the Braldu to Jhola (3,050m).
Trek through the Braldu valley to Paiju (3,420m) at the foot of the glacier.
An acclimatization day at Paiju under the Trango Towers.
Step onto the Baltoro Glacier and cross to Khoburtse (3,795m).
Climb to Urdukas (3,930m), a balcony above the ice under the Trango Towers.
A full day on the Urdukas terraces, the last grass before the ice. Climb a couple of hundred metres above camp in the morning and come back down to sleep - the oldest rule in altitude, and the reason this itinerary is three days longer than the classic.
A day on the open glacier to Goro II (4,295m).
Reach Concordia (4,500m), the throne room of the mountain gods.
Walk to K2 Base Camp (5,150m) and Broad Peak BC, under the second-highest mountain on earth.
An acclimatization day to rest and take in the peak views.
A second day at Concordia exploring the Godwin-Austen Glacier.
Out and back to Broad Peak Base Camp, 4,900 m, where the 8,051 m face rises straight off the glacier. A working acclimatisation day disguised as the finest side trip on the Baltoro - you sleep back at Concordia, several hundred metres lower than you walked.
A day held in reserve at Concordia. If the Baltoro has been kind you spend it watching the light move across K2, Broad Peak and the Gasherbrums. If it has not, this is the day that saves the trek - the one most 21-day itineraries do not carry.
Turn for home, retracing the Baltoro to Goro II (4,295m).
Back down the glacier to Urdukas (3,930m).
Descend the Baltoro to Paiju (3,420m).
Trek down the Braldu valley to Jhola (3,050m).
Walk out to Askole - trek complete - then drive to Skardu.
A rest day in Skardu with a celebration dinner and gear return.
Fly from Skardu to Islamabad for departure.

Tips
Why Karakoram Venture
Because the people who take you up this mountain are from it. Our guides grew up in these valleys, and they are our own team — not a booking desk handing you to whoever is cheapest that week. Every one of them is certified by the Alpine Club of Pakistan, holds Wilderness First Aid, and has between five and twenty years on high-altitude ground. They work in Urdu, Balti and English.
Because the safety is real, and we will name it rather than imply it. A satellite phone travels in every camp, we hold established helicopter-rescue contacts for this region, and we tell you exactly which travel insurance to carry. Budget operators cut precisely these things, because you cannot see them on a web page.
Because the price is honest. Local infrastructure is why $4,500 per person covers the trip from Islamabad rather than a stripped-down base rate. Exactly what it includes — and the handful of things it does not — is set out above.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the K2 Base Camp Trek cost?
Our 2026 fixed departures run at $4,500 per person, all-inclusive — permits and NOC, camping and meals on the trek, local Balti guides and porters, and ground transport from Skardu. No hidden extras bolted on at the trailhead.
How long is the trek, and what does the schedule look like?
Twenty-one days, twenty nights start to finish. That covers travel from Islamabad to Skardu, the 4x4 jeep up the Braldu valley to Askole, the trek in along the Baltoro Glacier to Concordia and K2 Base Camp, the return on the same route, and buffer days for weather.
How hard is the K2 Base Camp Trek? Do I need climbing skills?
It is a hard trek, but not a technical climb — no ropework or mountaineering skills are needed on the classic route. What it asks for is endurance: long days on glacier moraine, altitude up to 5,150m, cold camps, and remote ground where there are no roads. Come with solid cardio fitness and ideally some prior multi-day trekking, and you will be ready for it.
When is the best time to do the trek?
The season runs June 1 to September 15. July and August give the most settled weather and the warmest camps on the glacier. Early June and September are quieter but colder.
How high do you go?
The high point is K2 Base Camp at roughly 5,150m, reached by way of Concordia at around 4,600m — the meeting point of the Baltoro glaciers, ringed by K2, Broad Peak and the Gasherbrums.
Do I need a special permit or visa?
Yes. Trekking here needs a Pakistan Trekking & Mountaineering visa, which is different from a standard tourist visa, plus trekking permits and an NOC for the Central Karakoram National Park. We arrange the permits and guide you through the visa paperwork before you travel.
What about safety and emergencies on the glacier?
Safety is where we never cut corners. Every Karakoram Venture expedition carries a satellite phone for camp communication, and in a real emergency helicopter rescue can be arranged through our regional contacts. Be clear on how that works out here: the cost of a heli evacuation is borne by the client and settled through their insurance, not bundled into the trek price. That is exactly why the insurance below matters.
What insurance do I need for the K2 Base Camp Trek?
We strongly require every trekker to join with mountaineering or adventure travel insurance that includes high-altitude helicopter evacuation cover — valid to at least 5,200m. On the Baltoro there is no road out, so heli-evacuation is the emergency option, and the cost falls to you and your insurer. Sort this before you travel, not after; we are happy to tell you what a suitable policy needs to cover.
Who guides the trek?
Your team is 100% local Balti — guides and porters from the valleys beneath K2, our own staff, never handed off to a third-party broker. They have walked the Baltoro their whole lives.
