North Pakistan Jeep Safari

North Pakistan Jeep Safari — 2026 All-Inclusive

The North Pakistan Jeep Safari is a 12 days guided trip in Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan, topping out at 4,693 m. It is graded Easy to Moderate — high-altitude 4×4 — short day walks. 6 fixed departures are open from $850 per person, all-inclusive from Islamabad.

The North Pakistan Jeep Safari is the ultimate overland adventure along one of the world's most spectacular roads — a 12-day 4x4 expedition along the Karakoram Highway, exploring the remote valleys, high plateaus, ancient forts and dramatic landscapes of Gilgit-Baltistan from the back of a purpose-equipped Land Cruiser. This is Pakistan seen at road level — raw, vast and unforgettable.

Why Jeep Safari?

The Karakoram Highway and its tributary roads pass through terrain that cannot be appreciated from a bus or plane. A dedicated 4x4 jeep allows you to stop at any viewpoint, turn off onto unmade tracks to remote villages, cross river fords and reach corners of Gilgit-Baltistan that no standard tour visits. Our experienced Skardu-based drivers know every track and shortcut through the mountains.

Route Highlights

Skardu & Baltistan (Days 1–4): Fly to Skardu and begin the jeep journey — Kharpocho Fort, Satpara Lake, the cold desert sand dunes, Shigar Valley and a full day across Deosai National Park's plateau (4,114m) — bears, marmots and Sheosar Lake.

Karakoram Highway North (Days 5–8): Drive north via Gilgit through the Hunza Valley gorge — Attabad Lake by boat, Passu Cones, Gulmit, Shimshal valley detour and the Chinese border at Khunjerab Pass (4,693m) — the highest paved international border crossing in the world.

Return via Gilgit & Fairy Meadows (Days 9–12): Descend through Nagar Valley, visit the Rush Lake trailhead, jeep track to Fairy Meadows for views of Nanga Parbat (8,126m), then drive the final section back to Islamabad through the Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindu Kush simultaneously.

Good to know

The highest point is 4,693 m, so altitude counts here. The itinerary is built around acclimatising and your guide sets a pace that gets you there comfortably.

You’re ready ifyou enjoy a full day out and do not mind some hours on the road.
Give yourself a little longer ifyou would like to feel fresher. A couple of walks beforehand makes the short strolls even easier.
This might not be your trip ifyou are after long days on foot and nights in a tent. Tell us and we will point you at one.

One thing we do insist on: travel insurance that covers helicopter evacuation.

Why Karakoram Venture

Because the people who take you up this mountain are from it. Our guides grew up in these valleys, and they are our own team — not a booking desk handing you to whoever is cheapest that week. Every one of them is certified by the Alpine Club of Pakistan, holds Wilderness First Aid, and has between five and twenty years on high-altitude ground.

Because the safety is real, and we will name it rather than imply it. A satellite phone travels in every camp, we hold established helicopter-rescue contacts for this region, and we tell you exactly which travel insurance to carry. Budget operators cut precisely these things, because you cannot see them on a web page.

Because the price is honest. Local infrastructure is why $850 per person covers the trip from Islamabad rather than a stripped-down base rate. Exactly what it includes — and the handful of things it does not — is set out above.
