Fairy Meadows Trek

Fairy Meadows & Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek — 2026 All-Inclusive

The Fairy Meadows & Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek is the most accessible way to stand face to face with an 8,000-meter giant. In a few short days you leave the Karakoram Highway for an alpine meadow of pine and wildflowers, with the immense Raikot Face of Nanga Parbat (8,126m) — the ninth-highest mountain on Earth — filling the whole skyline.

They call Nanga Parbat the Killer Mountain, yet this trek asks no technical climbing of you. It is a moderate walk through some of the most dramatic scenery in Pakistan, well suited to fit first-time trekkers who want genuine mountain wilderness without crampons, glaciers or high passes.

What Makes This Trek Special?
  • An 8,000m Wall, Up Close: Few treks anywhere put you beneath an 8,000-meter face this quickly — the Raikot flank rises more than 4,500m above the meadow.
  • Fairy Meadows (3,300m): A green plateau of pine forest and wildflowers, long rated one of the most beautiful campsites on Earth.
  • The Raikot Jeep Track: One of the most famous mountain jeep roads in the world, climbing from Raikot Bridge to Tato village.
  • Beginner-Friendly: No technical ground — a perfect first Himalayan trek, or an acclimatization warm-up before the bigger Karakoram routes.

From Islamabad you follow the legendary Karakoram Highway north to Chilas, then ride a 4×4 jeep up the Raikot gorge to Tato. A forest trail climbs to Fairy Meadows, and the next morning you walk on through Beyal Camp to the Nanga Parbat (Raikot) Base Camp viewpoint, the Raikot Glacier spilling from the mountain itself.

A standard Pakistan tourist visa is all you need; no special trekking permit is required. We can send a booking letter to support your application.

What about insurance and safety?

We recommend travel insurance with medical and evacuation cover for mountain travel. Your guide carries a clear emergency plan throughout.

Who guides the trek?

Our own experienced local guides, who know the Raikot and Nanga Parbat trails intimately.

What Is Karakoram Venture?

Karakoram Venture is a Skardu-based adventure travel company specialising in expert-guided treks and tours across Pakistan's Karakoram, Himalaya, and Hindu Kush ranges. We are founded and run by local mountain professionals who grew up in these valleys.

Where Are You Based?

Our operations are based in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan — the gateway to K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I & II, and the Baltoro Glacier. We also have a coordination office in Islamabad to assist with arrivals and departures.

Which Regions Do You Cover?

We operate across the entire northern region of Pakistan — Gilgit-Baltistan (Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Swat, Kumrat, Kaghan), Azad Kashmir (Neelum Valley), and the Karakoram Highway corridor.

How Experienced Are Your Guides?

All our guides are certified by the Alpine Club of Pakistan, hold Wilderness First Aid qualifications, and have 5 to 20+ years of field experience on high-altitude treks including multiple Baltoro Glacier and K2 Base Camp expeditions. Most were born in Skardu or the surrounding valleys.

Is Pakistan Safe To Visit?

Yes. Pakistan's northern mountain regions are safe, welcoming, and actively developing their tourism infrastructure. Gilgit-Baltistan and KPK valleys see thousands of international trekkers each year. Our guides monitor trail conditions, weather, and security daily to ensure your safety.

What Is The Best Time To Trek In Pakistan?

High-altitude treks (K2, Snow Lake, Gondogoro La) are best done June to September. Spring blossom tours in Hunza and Skardu are best in March and April. Valley tours (Naran, Kumrat, Swat) are best May to October. Autumn foliage tours in Skardu peak in October to November.

Do You Offer Private Tours?

Yes. All our packages are available as fully private tours with flexible departure dates. Private tours include your own dedicated guide, personal vehicle, and a fully customisable itinerary. Contact us with your dates and group size for a custom quote.

How Do I Contact You?

You can reach us via WhatsApp at +92 312 9921574, by email at info@karakoramventure.com, or through the Contact form on our website. We typically respond within 4 hours during business hours (Pakistan Standard Time, GMT+5).

What Food Is Provided On Treks?

Our professional mountain cooks prepare three full meals per day on all multi-day treks. Breakfast typically includes porridge, eggs, toast, and tea. Lunch and dinner feature Pakistani dishes including rice, dal, vegetables, chicken (where possible), and chapati. Vegetarian and dietary requirements are accommodated with advance notice.

Is The Food Safe To Eat On Trek?

Yes. Our cooks follow strict food hygiene practices. All water used for cooking is boiled or filtered. We carry high-quality ingredients from Skardu and replenish at checkpoints. We have never had a food-related illness incident on any of our expeditions.

What Accommodation Is Used In Cities?

In Islamabad we use 3 to 4-star hotels with air conditioning, breakfast included, and easy airport access. In Skardu we use the best available hotels suited to your package tier — from comfortable guesthouses to Shigar Fort Heritage Hotel for luxury packages.

What Are The Camps Like On Trek?

All camping equipment is provided by Karakoram Venture — high-quality 4-season tents, foam sleeping pads, and a fully equipped cook tent. You will need your own sleeping bag rated to -15°C minimum. Camps are set up by our support staff before your arrival at each site.

Are Toilet Facilities Available On Trek?

Established campsites (Paiju, Urdukas, Concordia, Khoburtse) have basic toilet facilities. On the trail, we provide a portable toilet tent for privacy and follow Leave No Trace principles. All waste is managed responsibly to protect the Baltoro Glacier environment.

Can You Cater For Dietary Requirements?

Yes. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and halal dietary requirements. Please inform us at the time of booking so we can prepare accordingly. All our food is halal by default as we source locally in Pakistan.

Is Drinking Water Provided?

Yes. Boiled and filtered drinking water is provided at all camps. On the trail, glacier streams provide clean water which our guides assess for safety. We recommend carrying a personal water filter or purification tablets as backup. Avoid drinking unfiltered glacial meltwater directly.

Is Alcohol Available On Trek?

Pakistan is a predominantly Muslim country and alcohol is not available on our treks or in the regions we operate. We do not carry or supply alcohol. If you require alcohol for medical purposes, please discuss this with us in advance.

Are Domestic Flights Included?

Yes. Return domestic flights between Islamabad and Skardu (or Gilgit where applicable) are included in all our all-inclusive packages. These are operated by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) or Serene Air. Flight schedules are weather-dependent in the mountain regions.

What Happens If My Domestic Flight Is Cancelled?

Domestic flights to Skardu are frequently cancelled due to poor visibility or mountain weather. If your flight is cancelled, we arrange overland transfer (8 to 10 hours via KKH) at no extra charge, or wait for the next available flight. We always build contingency days into our itineraries for this reason.

Which Airport Should I Fly Into?

Fly into Islamabad International Airport (ISB / IATA: ISB). This is Pakistan's main international gateway with direct flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Istanbul, London, and many other cities. We arrange pick-up from the airport upon arrival.

How Long Is The Flight From Islamabad To Skardu?

The flight from Islamabad to Skardu takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. It is one of the most scenic commercial flights in the world — you fly directly alongside Nanga Parbat (8,126m) and into the heart of the Karakoram. Book a window seat on the left side for the best views.

Can I Travel To Skardu By Road Instead Of Flying?

Yes. The Karakoram Highway (KKH) connects Islamabad to Skardu in approximately 18 to 22 hours by road (via Besham, Chilas, and Gilgit) or 15 to 18 hours via the direct Babusar Pass route (summer only). Road travel is scenic but significantly longer than flying. We recommend flying where possible.

Do You Help Book International Flights?

We do not book international flights directly, but we can advise on the best routing and airlines for your nationality. Popular connections include Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, and Air Arabia via Sharjah. Always book refundable tickets for Pakistan trips.

What Is The Baggage Allowance On Domestic Flights?

Domestic flights to Skardu typically allow 20kg checked baggage and 7kg carry-on. Excess baggage charges apply. For trekking equipment, we recommend keeping your main trek gear in a duffel bag (preferably under 15kg) and your essentials in a daypack as carry-on.

Is There A Risk Of Missing My International Flight Due To A Domestic Cancellation?

This is a real risk during monsoon season (July to August) and we plan for it. We always build 1 to 2 buffer days at the end of your trip in Islamabad before your international departure. Never book an international flight for the same day as your scheduled Skardu to Islamabad return.

Do I Need A Visa To Visit Pakistan?

Most nationalities require a tourist visa to enter Pakistan. Citizens of many countries including the UK, USA, Canada, EU, Australia, and most of Asia can apply for an e-Visa online through the Pakistan Visa Portal (visa.nadra.gov.pk). Some nationalities receive a visa on arrival. Check the NADRA website for your country's specific requirements.

How Do I Apply For A Pakistan Tourist Visa?

Visit visa.nadra.gov.pk to apply for your e-Visa online. You will need a valid passport (6 months validity), a confirmed hotel booking or Letter of Invitation, a return flight ticket, bank statement, and a recent passport photo. Once you book with us, we provide the Letter of Invitation (LOI) within 2 business days.

Do You Provide A Letter Of Invitation?

Yes. After you complete your booking and pay the deposit, we issue an official Letter of Invitation (LOI) on Karakoram Venture letterhead within 2 business days. The LOI is required for most visa applications and confirms your trek/tour dates, accommodation, and our company registration details.

How Long Does It Take To Get A Pakistan Visa?

E-Visa processing typically takes 5 to 15 working days, though it can be faster for many nationalities. We recommend applying at least 4 to 6 weeks before your travel date. Some embassies process visas within 48 hours for an express fee. Always check current processing times for your country.

What Is The Pakistan Visa Fee?

Pakistan e-Visa fees vary by nationality — typically between USD 20 and USD 75. Check the official NADRA visa portal for your country's exact fee. Visa fees are not included in our package prices as they are paid directly to the Pakistan government.

Do I Need A Trekking Permit?

Yes. The Baltoro Glacier, Gondogoro La, Biafo-Hispar, and other restricted trekking zones require official permits from Pakistan's Ministry of Tourism. All trekking permits for the routes we operate are fully included in our package prices. We handle all permit applications on your behalf.

Can I Extend My Visa If I Want To Stay Longer?

Yes. Pakistan tourist visas can be extended at the Foreigner Registration Office (FRRO) in Islamabad, Skardu, or Gilgit. Extensions are typically granted for 30 to 90 days. We can assist you with the extension process if needed. Contact us before your current visa expires.

Are There Any Restricted Areas I Should Know About?

The Baltoro Glacier and surrounding high-altitude zones are restricted areas requiring official trekking permits. Foreign nationals also need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for some zones. All necessary permits are included in our packages. Your guide will carry copies of all required documentation throughout the trek.

Can You Build A Custom Trek For Me?

Yes. We specialise in fully bespoke trekking expeditions across the Karakoram, Himalaya, and Hindu Kush. Tell us your interests, fitness level, available dates, and budget, and our team will design a custom itinerary. We have guided private expeditions to rarely-visited valleys, off-map glaciers, and technical high-altitude routes.

Can We Change The Itinerary During The Trek?

On private custom tours, yes — we can adjust pace, add side trips, or modify the route based on your preferences and conditions. On fixed group departures, the main itinerary is set, but our guides have the discretion to make minor adjustments for safety, weather, or acclimatisation.

Do You Offer Photography Expeditions?

Yes. We regularly guide photography-focused expeditions to the Baltoro Glacier, Concordia, Deosai National Park, and the cherry blossom valleys of Hunza and Skardu. These are private tours with extra rest days at key viewpoints and flexible timing for golden hour and dawn shots.

Can You Arrange A Honeymoon Or Romantic Trip?

Yes. We offer romantic getaway packages including the Hunza Valley Blossom Tour, Skardu Lake Tour, and private cultural tours of Baltistan. These can be tailored with luxury accommodation (including Serena Hotels), private vehicles, and scenic dinners. Contact us to design your perfect honeymoon in the mountains.

Do You Organise Corporate Or Group Team Building Trips?

Yes. We have organised corporate retreats and team-building expeditions for companies across Pakistan and internationally. Options range from 2-day Khanpur Dam or Naran Kaghan trips to multi-day cultural tours of Baltistan and Hunza. We can accommodate groups of 5 to 50 with full logistics support.

Can You Arrange School Or University Trekking Groups?

Yes. We regularly work with schools, universities, and youth organisations across Pakistan and internationally. We design age-appropriate, safe, and educational trekking programmes with certified guides, full safety protocols, and daily briefings. Minimum age requirements vary by trek difficulty.

How Far In Advance Should I Book A Custom Trip?

For high-altitude custom treks (K2, Snow Lake, etc.), we recommend booking 3 to 6 months in advance to secure permits, porters, and logistics. For valley tours and cultural trips, 4 to 8 weeks in advance is usually sufficient. Contact us early — permit quotas fill up quickly for the peak summer season.

Do You Offer Family-Friendly Packages?

Yes. Our Hunza Cherry Blossom Tour, Baltistan Cultural Tour, Naran Kaghan Tour, Murree & Nathia Gali Tour, and Khanpur Dam Tour are all ideal for families with children. These are road-based, low-altitude, and require no special fitness level. Children under 12 receive discounted rates.

How Do I Confirm My Booking?

Complete the booking inquiry form on our website or contact us via WhatsApp (+92 312 9921574). We will send you a booking confirmation form and a deposit invoice. Your booking is confirmed once the deposit is received and we issue your booking confirmation and Letter of Invitation.

What Is The Deposit Amount?

Deposit amounts vary by package: $10 to $50 for short tours, $250 to $400 for multi-day treks and expeditions. The deposit is non-refundable and secures your seat on a fixed departure or your preferred dates for a private tour. Full payment is due 30 days before departure.

What Payment Methods Do You Accept?

We accept international bank transfers (SWIFT/wire), Wise (TransferWise) for lower fees, Western Union, and cash in USD or Euros on arrival in Islamabad. We do not currently accept credit or debit cards directly. All payment details are provided after your booking form is submitted.

Is My Payment Secure?

Yes. All bank transfer payments go directly to our registered company account with a Pakistan-registered bank. For Wise and Western Union transfers, we provide our verified account details. We issue a formal receipt for all payments. Never send payment to personal accounts — only use our official company account details.

When Is The Full Payment Due?

Full payment must be received 30 days before your departure date. For bookings made less than 30 days before departure, full payment is required at the time of booking. For long-haul expeditions (21+ days), we may require payment 45 days in advance. Your booking confirmation will state the exact due date.

Can I Pay In Installments?

Yes. We offer a flexible installment plan: pay the deposit first to secure your booking, then the remaining balance in agreed installments before the final payment deadline (30 days before departure). Contact us to set up a payment schedule that works for your budget.

What Currency Do You Accept?

We quote and accept payment in USD (US Dollars) for international clients. We also accept GBP and EUR at the current exchange rate. Cash payments in Islamabad can be made in USD, EUR, or PKR (Pakistani Rupees) at the prevailing rate.

Do You Charge Any Hidden Fees?

No. Our all-inclusive package prices cover everything stated in the inclusions list — domestic flights, all transport, accommodation, meals, permits, guides, porters, and camping equipment. The only additional costs are international flights, Pakistan visa fees, personal travel insurance, personal gear, and optional tips for staff.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

Cancellations made 60+ days before departure: full refund minus the deposit. Cancellations 30 to 59 days before departure: 50% refund of the total amount paid. Cancellations less than 30 days before departure: no refund. The deposit is always non-refundable as it covers administrative and permit costs.

How Do I Cancel My Booking?

Send a written cancellation notice to info@karakoramventure.com with your booking reference, full name, and departure date. Cancellations are processed within 5 business days. Refunds are issued via the same payment method used for the original payment within 10 to 14 business days.

Can I Transfer My Booking To Another Date?

Yes. If you notify us 30+ days before your departure date, you can transfer your booking to another available departure date without penalty. Date transfers made less than 30 days before departure are subject to a 10% administrative fee. Only one date transfer per booking is allowed.

Can I Transfer My Booking To Another Person?

Yes. You may transfer your booking to another person with the same package requirements up to 14 days before departure. Please notify us in writing with the new participant's details. A small administrative fee may apply. The transferee must meet all health and fitness requirements for the trek.

What Happens If Karakoram Venture Cancels My Trip?

In the rare event we cancel a trip due to unforeseen circumstances (extreme weather, natural disaster, government travel advisories), we will offer a full refund or a date transfer at no extra charge. We will notify you as early as possible and assist with any non-refundable costs where feasible.

What Happens If My Trek Is Cut Short Due To Weather?

The Karakoram is an extreme mountain environment. If a trek must be shortened due to severe weather, health issues, or force majeure, we do not provide refunds for the unused portion. This is why comprehensive travel insurance (including trip interruption cover) is mandatory for all our treks.

Is The Deposit Ever Refundable?

The deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances as it covers permit applications, porter bookings, and administrative costs that are committed immediately upon booking. However, if Karakoram Venture cancels the trip, the deposit is refunded in full along with any balance payments.

What If I Need To Cancel Due To A Medical Emergency?

We handle all cancellation requests with compassion. In the case of a documented medical emergency, we will do our utmost to accommodate a date transfer rather than a cancellation. This is another reason why comprehensive travel insurance with trip cancellation cover is strongly recommended for all bookings.

Do You Offer Group Discounts?

Yes. Groups of 3 to 6 people receive a 5% to 10% discount on standard per-person rates. Groups of 7 to 10 receive our best group rates — which are our published fixed-group prices. For groups of 10+, contact us for a custom quote with maximum savings.

What Is The Maximum Group Size You Accept?

Our standard group departures accept a maximum of 10 trekkers to maintain quality, safety, and a personalised experience. For larger groups (10 to 50+), we organise private group departures with dedicated guides, cooks, and support staff scaled to your group size. Contact us for large group enquiries.

Can We Book An Entire Departure For Our Group?

Yes. You can book an exclusive group departure for your team on any of our fixed itineraries. This gives your group the full experience with a private guide team, dedicated cook, and flexible pace. Exclusive group bookings receive priority for permit allocations and preferred campsites.

Do You Offer Corporate Group Packages?

Yes. We have designed and delivered corporate adventure packages for companies including team-building treks, executive retreats in Hunza, and incentive travel programmes to Baltistan. Corporate bookings include a dedicated account manager, custom branding options, and full logistics coordination from arrival to departure.

How Far In Advance Should A Group Book?

Large groups (7+) should book 4 to 6 months in advance for high-altitude treks to secure permits (which have limited quotas), sufficient porters, and logistics. Valley tours and cultural trips for groups can be arranged 4 to 8 weeks in advance. Early booking guarantees better dates and lower rates.

Is There A Dedicated Point Of Contact For Group Bookings?

Yes. All group bookings (5+ people) are assigned a dedicated coordinator who handles all logistics from booking to return. Your coordinator is available via WhatsApp and email throughout the planning process and during the trip itself for any updates or changes.

Can Groups Customise The Itinerary?

Yes. Group bookings of 5 or more can fully customise the itinerary — choose departure dates, adjust the pace, add extra acclimatisation days, include side trips, and select accommodation levels. We work with your group leader to design the ideal experience for your team.

Are There Special Terms For School Or University Groups?

Yes. We offer educational discount rates for school and university groups, along with adapted itineraries suitable for younger trekkers. Our guides provide daily briefings on geology, ecology, and Karakoram history. We can provide a full risk assessment and safety documentation for institutional requirements.

What Is Your Refund Policy?

Refunds are processed based on the timing of cancellation. 60+ days before departure: full refund minus the non-refundable deposit. 30 to 59 days before departure: 50% refund of the total amount paid. Less than 30 days before departure: no refund. If Karakoram Venture cancels, a full refund including the deposit is issued.

How Long Does A Refund Take To Process?

Once a refund is approved, it is processed within 5 to 10 business days. The time for funds to appear in your account depends on your bank and payment method — typically 3 to 7 additional business days for international bank transfers, and 1 to 3 days for Wise transfers.

How Will My Refund Be Issued?

Refunds are always issued via the same payment method used for the original booking. Bank transfer refunds are sent to the same account. Wise refunds are returned to the same Wise account. Cash payments are refunded in cash in Islamabad. We do not issue refunds via a different payment method.

Can I Get A Refund If I Leave The Trek Early?

No. We do not provide partial refunds for early departure from a trek, whether due to personal choice, fitness issues, or acclimatisation difficulties. This is another key reason why comprehensive travel insurance with trip interruption and emergency evacuation cover is mandatory for all our multi-day treks.

What If I Am Unhappy With The Service?

Your satisfaction is our priority. If you experience any issues during your trek or tour, please speak to your guide immediately so we can resolve them on the spot. After your return, send formal feedback to info@karakoramventure.com. We take all complaints seriously and respond within 5 business days.

Are Flights Refunded If My Trek Is Cancelled?

Domestic flight costs (Islamabad to Skardu) are included in our package price and are refunded as part of the standard cancellation terms. International flights are booked independently by the client — we strongly recommend purchasing refundable or flexible international tickets, and comprehensive travel insurance to cover non-refundable flight costs.

What If A Natural Disaster Or Emergency Affects My Trip?

In force majeure situations (natural disasters, extreme weather, government travel advisories, political unrest), we offer a full date transfer at no extra charge. If a date transfer is not possible, we will work with you to maximise any refund recoverable, but full refunds for force majeure events cannot always be guaranteed.

Do You Offer Travel Insurance To Cover Cancellation Costs?

We do not sell travel insurance directly, but we strongly recommend purchasing a comprehensive policy before booking. We recommend World Nomads, True Traveller, or Battleface for adventure travel insurance. Your policy should include trip cancellation, trip interruption, emergency medical, and helicopter evacuation cover for high-altitude trekking.
